NYSE Floor Talk speaks with Martin Shkreli, co-founder of DL Software, at the All-In Summit in Los Angeles, California. The conversation covers his message to entrepreneurs, the company he is building, and his perspective on AI, hardware, and biopharma.
Asked what he would tell attendees, Shkreli says this is an interesting time to start a company, with real challenges. He notes that funding and opportunity can seem plentiful, but says every startup hits a wall, and that how founders get over it determines success or failure.
Shkreli describes DL Software as a maker of investing software for retail investors, small institutions, and large institutions. He says ICE is a partner that provides data to the company. He explains that DL Software aims to connect talented investors outside major financial centers with more capital and resources, and compares the idea to the way YouTube pays creators. On the company’s stage, he says it has raised about $110 million to $115 million, has about 20 people, and has millions in revenue.
On technology, Shkreli says hardware has been a central theme in AI and that he is interested in newer approaches such as photonic computing and 3D memory. He says he is excited about what the next 10 to 20 years may bring for hardware, and that he expects more software entrepreneurs to enter the space.
Discussing AI more broadly, Shkreli says no one can see the future clearly and that he expects what comes next to look different from today’s predictions. He says his company began as an AI software company and describes AI as giving businesses what he calls synthetic intelligence on demand. He sees an opportunity in automating AI use on behalf of customers.
Shkreli also discusses biopharma. He says he is focused on rare and pediatric illnesses and on drug development, and that he finds the work meaningful for patients who might otherwise never have a treatment.
